JIM'S NEWS             July - August 2011

• THE GYMPIE NATIONAL MUSIC MUSTER

For the first time in quite a while I will be performing as a featured artist at this year's GYMPIE MUSTER ....on Sunday August 28th at noon. It's the 30th Muster and I have been asked to return to the festival where I began the morning shows many years ago. Russell and I are looking forward to playing there and we have some special surprise guests lined up!

• NEW compilation DOUBLE ALBUM ..... and brand NEW Album soon

I have just finished compiling a two CD set of ALL the old songs, poems and comedy routines to be released at the MUSTER - it is the COMPLETE Jim Haynes Collection and there will be NO MORE collections after this! Only new material from now on! EVERYTHING that I have ever done that has been requested or popular is on this double album!

Later this year I head into the studio to record a BRAND NEW COLLECTION of BRAND NEW SONGS! Watch this space!

• THE CMAA AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY of COUNTRY MUSIC

What a BUZZ the CMAA Academy of Country Music always is!  44 young talented students and 22 parents of the 22 juniors ... with industry folk like Mike McClellan, Merelyn Carter, Amber Lawrence, Lyn Bowtell and the guru of young music programs Peter Winkler!

This year's Academy concluded on Sat 9th of July.

We had GREAT musos in residence like Dougie Gallagher and Simon Johnson and Brad Bergan and songwriter in residence Tamara Stewart. Shane Nicholsen and Nash Chambers dropped in to share their knowledge and advice, as did industry heavyweights like Rob Potts, Bill Page from Mushroom Publishing, old mates Chez Byrnes, Roxanne Brown, Barry Harley, Travis Collins, Peter Harkins and many, many more.

It was a lot of fun running the parents' course again and meeting some great people and kids from all around Australia. The euchre nights while we waited for the kids to finish master-classes were a highlight.

There were SO MANY talented kids in the junior course and it was a special thrill for me to see young Caitlin O'Donohue from far north Queensland do so well. Caitlin is home schooled with her two younger siblings and I have known her since she was about 10 and she is now 14 and an amazing young singer.

It was also a thrill to meet 11 year old Taylor Pfeiffer from Clare in South Australia and her family. Taylor yodels and plays the banjo ! She will be appearing on next year's BIG BUSH BREKKY SHOWS.

• CHARLES STURT UNIVERSITY

I will be writer in residence at Charles Sturt University in beautiful Wagga Wagga for the last two weeks of July. I am really looking forward to sharing my ideas with the writers of the Riverina and making some new friends.

• Don't forget the COUNTRY MUSIC CRUISE in Late October early November!  Follow the links from the website

GREAT NEWS for our good friend MELANIE DYER .... busy studying for her HSC and being school captain at Inverell High she has found time to write the NSW EDUCATION DEPARTMENT SONG FOR EDUCATION WEEK - it is called 'THE POWER'S IN OUR HANDS' and you will hear it sung everywhere in AUGUST! Melly is also off the LOS ANGELES for three weeks songwriting soon but will be home in time to sit for her HSC!
